Our Story

Origin

Inspired by a conversation in a nightclub with the captain of a social cricket side in the year above in the early hours of the morning, our founder set up a social cricket side with his group of friends at university called ‘AB De Villagers’!

It was then whilst selling portable chargers during the darts at Ally Pally, with lots of spare time to brainstorm, that idea quickly snowballed. This led to the idea of a big social charity cricket tournament in the summer to play a load more fixtures and to create fun social day in the diary!

2023-2024

Sixes in the City started as an annual inter-university charity cricket tournament held in London between different friendship groups.

We managed to raise over just over £10,000 for the Ruth Strauss Foundation across the two events, reaching the capacity of 500 people both years.

It was only in the Spring of 2024 did the idea of it being a business even spring to mind.

As a Business

Realising he may be onto something bigger, James took Sixes in the City forward as a business in September 2024 having recently graduated from Durham University.

The plan was to give it for one year by taking the event to each of the universities that had previously been involved.

We ended up with over 6,000
attendees across all our 5 events, with a highest attendance of 1,800 at Exeter!

2026

We’ll be expanding to 9 universities this summer, as we look to establish ourselves in this market.

We’re also re-imagining our London event, focusing on young professionals in their twenties, with a capacity up t0 3,000. This is a natural evolution of our original events, as that same group move to London after university.

Charity

Although we have evolved into a business, maintaining a charitable aspect will continue to be an important part of what we do going forward.

We have continued our annual fundraiser, as well as launching Sixes at the Summit. This is our attempt to beat the record for the highest altitude cricket match in the world on Ojos del Salado, Chile! Our goal is to raise £200,000 for Rays of Sunshine & the A Day for Thorpey Fund.
